  • Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT Tire Review

Renowned for its legacy of performance and reliability since 1898, Goodyear is a global leader in tire innovation and one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world. As North America’s top tire brand, it pioneered breakthroughs like the first all-season tire and even provided the first tires for the moon. Today, Goodyear is synonymous with high-quality, durable tires that feature advanced technologies like DuPont Kevlar and TredLife durability. With presence in many different categories, Goodyear rolls out tires for all-terrain, all-weather, winter, mud-terrain, rugged-terrain, and UHP tires.

Among its mud-terrain tirelines, the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT blends aggressive off-road performance with a decent on-road experience. Designed as the flagship original equipment (OE) tire for high-performance off-roaders, the Goodyear tire is engineered to conquer everything from deep mud pits to typical rocky trails. With an open tread design featuring large, self-cleaning voids, the Wrangler Territory MT effortlessly ejects debris for consistent grip and traction in challenging conditions. While its wrap-around shoulder blocks offer extra bite in deep mud and snow, its reinforced construction lends puncture resistance necessary for heavy-duty trail use.

So, is it the best mud-terrain tire for you? Let’s delve into more details in this Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tire review, and analyse its features and benefits, pros and cons, compatible vehicles, and our final say about the same.

    Features and Benefits

Mud-terrain tires are specialized off-road tires designed for driving in extreme conditions like deep mud, loose soil, and jagged rocks. They feature aggressive, oversized tread blocks and wide channels that aid in self-cleaning action and eject debris. With reinforced sidewalls to resist punctures, they offer ultimate traction for serious adventurers.

The Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT checks most of the boxes to qualify for a great mud-terrain tire. Let’s have a look at its features and their corresponding benefits:

    • Superior grip and traction: With an optimized tread design featuring large voids, the Goodyear tire’s aggressive pattern allows it to effortlessly clear mud, dirt, and rocks while driving, ensuring constant contact with the terrain for excellent traction on soft or loose surfaces. The wrap-around shoulder lugs provide critical, extra biting edges that help the vehicle gain traction when navigating deep ruts, thick mud, or heavy snow.
    • Reduced noise levels: Unlike traditional mud tires, which produce loud noise, the computer-optimized design of the Wrangler Territory MT absorbs vibrations and neutralizes sound frequencies, resulting in a surprisingly quiet and comfortable highway ride.
    • Great durability: The tire's robust construction prevents deformation under heavy loads and high driving pressure, and boosts its load capacity while protecting the casing against punctures on tough trails. Thanks to the specialized rubber compound, the Goodyear mud-terrain tire resists cuts, chips, and abrasions from sharp rocks. This compound is paired with strategic siping to enhance cornering stability and braking performance on wet or slippery pavement.
    • Lighter-weight construction: Often lighter than its competitors, the Wrangler Territory MT’s design reduces unsprung weight, which leads to noticeably better acceleration, braking, and fuel efficiency compared to heavier dedicated mud-terrain options available on the market.

While it is not winter-certified (misses the 3PMSF symbol; Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification), the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT’s soft compound and heavy siping offer reliable year-round versatility for those demanding serious off-road strength.

The Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT is available in a wide range of tire sizes, including 17, 18, and 20 inches.

    Pros and Cons

While we have seen the features and benefits of the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT, let’s have a glance at its pros and cons before concluding this Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT review.

    PROS:

    • Wrap-around shoulder lugs bite into deep mud and snow for increased grip and traction
    • High-void ratio for self-clearing of mud, dirt, and water
    • Special rubber compound resists cuts, chips, punctures, and abrasions
    • Optimized tread design for reduced noise and vibrations compared to other mud-terrain tires
    • Open tread pattern for superior traction and stability on and off the road
    • Numerous sipes lend extra biting edges for conquering challenging off-road conditions

    CONS:

    • It does not come with a mileage warranty
    • It cannot be used in extreme winter weather, as it is not Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified

SimpleTire’s view on Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires

To sum up, the Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT is a premium mud-terrain tire that delivers relentless off-road grip without the typical highway roar. It’s the ideal choice for enthusiasts who demand aggressive performance and a surprisingly refined daily commute. These replaced a set of Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT's in the same size. These are definitely noisier, they seem to pick up a lot of stones and then throw them out at highway speeds. I was surprised at the fuel mileage loss, over 3 mpg's! Didn't expect quite that much. Overall, about what I expected.

I installed these tires on a 6.5" long-travel lifted '99 Jeep Cherokee so please take my review with a grain of salt as my expectations may differ from the average person installing these on an SUV, keeping that in mind I am quite happy with the look and noise of these tires. I plan on purchasing another set to be installed on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler very soon which gets up to higher speeds much more often. I have been impressed particularly in heavy standing water, these tires shed the excess water quite well. My previous tires would hydroplane quite often, not the most ideal in a top heavy-roll happy Chrysler product. These have seen much heavier rain and flooding in the last few months and I couldn't be happier with their on-road performance.

The tires look rugged but they have a nice ride to them and I'm very satisfied with the performance
