General Tires has a history of more than 100 years, being founded in 1915 in Akron, OH. The founders Winfred E. Fouse and William F. O’Neill put tremendous faith in high quality and focused only on the truck market, thereby ruling the roost in a market with more than 300 competitors then. Their flagship product was General Jumbo, an oversized pneumatic tire. By the 1930’s, General Tires was ready with an entire range of pneumatic tires and had become the leading truck tire manufacturer in the US. It is a brand currently owned by Continental Tire the Americas LLC and its tires are manufactured in America.
General put together the properties of durability, style, and performance into a single tire- the Grabber HTS. The General Grabber HTS is an all-season tire that’s specially manufactured for light trucks, crossovers, full-size vans, and SUVs.
Here’s a detailed look at the tire through the following General Grabber HTS review.
Features and Benefits
The General Grabber HTS is capable of demonstrating adaptive performance, stemming from the use of Stabilink Bars, three sipes, and Response Grooves. The special tread compound reduces rolling resistance and minimizes CO2 emissions for a greener planet. This tire has been specially manufactured to exhibit superior road manners at all times. Of course, it is important to get regular rotations and vehicle maintenance done for long tire life. We found the following features and benefits during our General Grabber HTS tire review:
- Can handle any weather condition- This tire comes with three types of sipes to handle wet, dry, and light winter weather conditions.
- Grooves for wet weather traction- Response Grooves on this tire provide directional guidance for steering and water evacuation while enhancing hydroplaning resistance.
- Smooth and quiet ride- The use of an internal cushioning system ensures that occupants experience minimum road vibrations for a smooth ride.
- High tire durability- Ultra-high tensile steel belts in the tire are responsible for high tire durability.
- Backed by a solid warranty- The tread life warranty here is divided into two parts- 60,000 miles for T-rated tires and below, and 45,000 miles for H-speed rated and LT sizes.
- Stability and high fuel economy- An Eco-Ride rubber compound has been combined with a symmetric tread pattern to produce a large contact patch for stability and high fuel economy.
- Enhanced braking and acceleration- The Stabilink system of connecting bars here is responsible for powerful braking, agile cornering, and enhanced acceleration.
Pros and Cons
It makes a lot of sense to buy a truck/SUV tire with long tire life, considering the type of abuse these vehicles are often subjected to. Two different warranties as per tire speed ratings is a great ploy by General here. The pros and cons given below will make reasons to buy this tire clear:
Pros:
- Backed by a 60,000 mile tread life warranty for T-rated tires and a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for H-speed rated and LT sizes
- Comfortable and quiet ride
- Great handling at highway speeds
- Easily brakes within short distances
- Superior dry, wet, and light winter traction
- Strong tires that withstand cuts and wounds
- Better fuel economy
Cons:
- Not particularly good in heavy snow
- Not available in sizes above 18-inches
SimpleTire’s view on General Grabber HTS tires
The General Grabber HTS is a strong and durable tire that can last for several miles and years if proper rotations and vehicle maintenance are carried out. It is comparatively less expensive than Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza and Pirelli Scorpion STR while exhibiting similar properties. The tire scores high on stability and traction due to the Eco-Ride tread compound. Backed by two types of treadwear warranties for different speed-rating tires (60,000 miles and 45,000 miles). At the same time, it also leads to low rolling resistance, thereby pointing towards better fuel economy. An all-new tread cushioning system that gets a high General Grabber HTS rating from us is responsible for a comfortable and smooth ride.

I have been driving for over 31 years and has tried numerous tires before with many different vehicles. I have these tires for less than a year and they are exactly the same as new. But this is my 3rd set over 10 year period. They are the best tires I have ever use. Extremely quiet, dry traction is excellent and wet is top notch. Tire road fell is 10 plus. These tires has long life tread wear, also one important features most tire can not achieve is that when worn out they are still very good on dry traction and not noisey. Most tires are very noisey near the end off it's treadwear. Too bad they do not make them anymore, because I want to purchase an extra set and put away for later use. Best tires ever use, you will not disappointed!
Great set of tires..love them..all around long lasting..even treadwear ect...
Good solid long lasting tire
It's really too early to tell but the tires do seem to handle well in the snow as well as standard driving conditions...
One two three, they work fine for me
