Shop LT305/70R17 Tire Size

What kinds of vehicles are rolling on LT305/70R17 tires? LT305/70R17 is a size you’ll find exclusively on light trucks and SUVs from the 2000s up through the present day. Here at SimpleTire, our team has reviewed the catalog and picked out some of the best LT265/70R17 tires in the premium all-season, all-terrain, and winter categories. We then used SimpleScore to arrive at a numerical value for the categories of traction, handling, and longevity for each tire, as well as an overall average SimpleScore for each.

If you’re driving a light truck or SUV that’s equipped with the LT305/70R17 size, here are some suggestions for premium all-terrain, rugged-terrain, and mud-terrain tires for your vehicle:

1. Yokohama Geolandar X/AT - Best All-Terrain tire

Let’s start with the best LT205/70R17 all-terrain tire: the Yokohama Geolandar X-AT. Here at the SimpleTire team, we’ve always been pretty impressed with Yokohama tires. When it comes to SimpleScores, the Geolandar X-AT registers at 8.4 for handling, 8.3 for traction, and 9.1 for longevity, with an overall average SimpleScore of 8.6. Durable with dependable traction, the Yokohama Geolandar X-AT is a compromise that meets in the middle between all-terrain and mud-terrain design and performance. It’s designed around Yokohama’s damage-resistant HD-2 off-road rubber compound and Geo-Shield design package, a technology suite that’s designed for stability and incorporates multiple sidewall plies, dual sidewall protectors, high-turnup casing, and a full nylon cap. Traction is enhanced even more with large shoulder blocks in varying lengths, combination grooves with a dense sipe pattern, and aggressive offset center blocks. The Geolandar’s ellipse-shaped contact patch is optimized for good handling and even wear. Yokohama covers the Geolandar X-AT with a 45,000 mile warranty.

2. Nitto Recon Grappler A/T - Great All-Terrain tire

Next is a fantastic value in an all-terrain tire, the Nitto Recon Grappler A/T. The Recon Grappler A/T’s SimpleScore ratings break down as 8.3 for traction, 8.4 for handling, and 8.7 for longevity, with an overall average SimpleScore of 8.5. The Recon Grappler A/T delivers dependable traction in a variety of rugged off-road situations with its combination of staggered shoulder grooves, zigzag grooves, and tread blocks. On the pavement, the Recon Grappler A/T is poised and confident; its rigid design helps provide surefooted handling, in wet or dry conditions, and a mix of narrow and wide tread grooves cancel certain frequencies and overtones, helping to keep highway noise low. The Nitto Recon Grappler A/T is covered by a 50,000 mile warranty.

3. Firestone Destination X/T - Best Rugged Terrain tire

Here’s our choice for a premium rugged-terrain tire in the LT305/70R17 size: the Firestone Destination X/T. The Destination X/T is certified with the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake designation for severe winter service and employs an aggressive all-terrain design that features staggered shoulder lugs, open shoulder slots, a high void ratio, full-depth sipes, and wraparound lugs at the shoulder. That’s enough to bring home a very strong SimpleScore of 9.1 for traction. With a SimpleScore of 8.0 for longevity, the Destination X/T is nothing but tough, with its damage-resistant rubber compound, reinforced construction, and a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Along with consistent, tenacious off-road traction, you can expect the Firestone Destination X/T to deliver good road manners, ride quality, and noise levels on the highway, with good control and steering response: SimpleScore of 9.1 for handling.

4. Kanati Mud Hog - Best Mud Terrain tire

Our pick for a great mud-terrain tire is the Mud Hog from Kanati. The Kanati Mud Hog comes in with SimpleScores of 7.7 for traction, 7.8 for handling, and 8.2 for longevity, with an overall average SimpleScore of 7.7. With a wide footprint and aggressive mud-terrain tread with a full 18/32” of tread depth, the Kanati Mud Hog is ready for the soupiest, nastiest mud you can find. Its 10-ply rating and 3-ply reinforced sidewall make it a great candidate for aired-down operation over rocks, steep terrain, logs, and other obstacles. An optimized void ratio allows the Mud Hog to easily eject mud, dirt, gravel, and debris out of the tread so there’s always a clear section of the tire to dig in for traction as the wheel turns. Reinforced construction and a damage-resistant tread compound ensure that the Kanati Mud Hog is ready for the roughest use you can put it through.

5. Leao Lion Sport M/T - Great Mud Terrain tire

We’re going to wrap this list up with another great prospect for a mud-terrain tire, the Leao Lion Sport M/T. The Lion Sport M/T registers well in SimpleScore rankings, with a 7.5 for traction, 8.0 for handling, 7.8 for durability, and an overall average SimpleScore of 7.8. With a tough steel belt package and damage-resistant tread compound, the Lion Sport M/T is ready for action. Large tread blocks and an aggressive pattern with deep lugs and a wide void ratio for self-cleaning help deliver unbeatable traction in difficult off-road conditions. The Leao Lion Sport M/T is surprisingly quiet and composed on the street, too, with a tread pitch that’s randomized and carefully tuned to keep road noise low by suppressing certain frequencies and resonances.
