Year-round grip is also a real plus with this tire, thanks to multi-wave zigzag sipes, expanding shoulder grooves, and circumferential grooves that efficiently divert water away from the tire’s contact patch for great grip in wet conditions for a traction SimpleScore of 8.3. We also like the fact that braking, road feedback, cornering dynamics, and steering response are all precise and consistent for a SimpleScore of 8.7 for handling. Next up on our list is a great value in an all-season tire, the Kumho Crugen HP71. For quite some time now, our team has thought that Kumho products in general deliver premium quality and performance, and the Crugen HP71 is no exception, with a very respectable SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity. The advanced tread compound of the Crugen HP71 is designed for excellent wear properties, enough for Kumho to offer a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Steering feedback, response, road manners, and cornering are along the lines of what you might expect from a performance tire, with a rigid center rib and shoulder blocks that resist the deformation and tread squirm that go along with the forces of braking and cornering. SimpleScore for handling: 8.6. After looking at the reviews and crunching the numbers, the Crugen HP71 comes in with a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction. Its tread pattern includes circumferential grooves, micro-serrations, lateral voids, and full-depth sipes that help with solid, consistent grip on a variety of pavement surfaces, whether it’s wet, dry, or wintry conditions on the roads. We always try to include a winter tire, and the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 is a perfect option for winter performance for your light truck or crossover. The Blizzak DM-V2 has the design features and technology to help you navigate through some of the most difficult winter conditions without putting you and your passengers through a nerve-wracking, slip-sliding ride. This dedicated winter tire is packed with advanced features. A winter tire must stay pliable for traction in subfreezing weather, and the Blizzak DM-V2 has a next-generation winter tread formulation that incorporates Bridgestone’s multi-cell rubber compounds and a hydrophilic coating for flexibility. For winter traction in extreme conditions, the Blizzak maximizes rubber contact with the road with increased block edges in its tread pattern. Durability is another real strength of this tire; intuitively, most tires will lose traction as they wear down, but Bridgestone designed the Blizzak DM-V2 with NanoPro Tech Multicell Compound for the first 55% of the tire’s tread depth. After that part of the tread wears down, the remaining 45% of tread depth is a standard winter compound that still offers excellent grip on snow and slush (SimpleScore of 9.3 for longevity). As you’d probably expect, the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated for severe winter service.
