Intuitively, most tires will lose traction as the tread depth gets shallower, but the Azenis FK460 A/S is designed with Emerging Grooves that open up and expand for extended performance even as the miles pile up and the tire’s tread depth wears. Next up is the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus 3, an ultra-high-performance all-season tire designed for enthusiastic performance and reliable traction year-round. The P Zero All Season Plus 3 is designed from the ground up with an updated polymer-enhanced tread formulation for durability and long wear, a tough twin steel belt package, a polyester casing, and polyamide reinforcement plies. Pirelli covers the P Zero All Season Plus 3 with a 50,000 mile manufacturer’s treadwear warranty. You would expect any tire manufacturer based in Finland to have decades of experience designing tires for a tough Scandinavian winter, and you’d be right if you thought that. Nokian (yes, the same parent company as Nokia phones) has been specializing in next-generation winter tires for cars and trucks for many years, and the Hakkapeliitta R5 is packed with innovations and features that can help navigate the rigors of winter driving. Winter tires have come far from the heavy, noisy, clunky “snow tires” of 40 years ago. Nokian designed the Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV with such low rolling resistance that it’s a great candidate for a winter tire for hybrids and EVs. Nokian’s Double Block Grip Pattern delivers cornering, braking, and steering responses that are all precise and direct (along with tenacious winter grip), with SimpleScores of 9.9 for traction and 8.6 for handling.
