1. Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season - Best All-Season tire

Let’s kick this list off with the best 275/35R21 all-season tire, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season. The Cinturato P7 All Season is very capable when it comes to handline (with a SimpleScore of 9.6), thanks to compact central blocks and robust construction that limits tread squirm and tire distortion during hard maneuvers and cornering. Wet and dry grip are superb thanks to a next-generation rubber compound and a combination of sipes, lateral grooves, and circumferential grooves, all working as a system to expel water from the tire’s contact patch, resist hydroplaning, and boost winter traction for a traction score of 9.8. The Cinturato P7 All Season does lose some points when it comes to longevity, with no mileage warranty and a SimpleScore of 8.5. It’s worth noting, though, that this tire is available with run-flat design, a reinforced sidewall technology that allows a driver to go as far as another 50 miles at 50 mph even after a complete loss of inflation pressure. With low rolling resistance, low noise, a forgiving ride, composed road manners, and great handling, the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season is a great value, great performer, and an all-season tire you can’t go wrong with.

2. Continental ContiSportContact 6 - Best UHP tire

For more performance-oriented drivers, check out the Continental ContiSportContact 6, an ultra-high-performance tire option. Continental designed the ContiSportContact 6 initially to match the performance targets of high-performance coupes and sedans, with great cornering and braking traction along with lowered rolling resistance. Continental’s Black Chilli tread compound is designed with long-chain and short-chain polymers for long, even wear, improved adhesion to the road for shorter braking distances, and good heat dispersal. This tread compound, along with a solid center rib that enhances straight-line stability and steering response and a “macro-block” outboard shoulder, adds up to handling that’s good enough to warrant a SimpleScore of 9.9. The wet-weather grip is secure and predictable with its circumferential grooves and sipes, for a SimpleScore of 9.9 for traction. Longevity weighs in at a SimpleScore of 8.6, thanks to the ContiSportContact 6’s twin steel belts and spiral-wrapped polyamide layer. It’s worth remembering here that the Continental ContiSportContact 6 also keeps road noise to a minimum with ContiSilent Technology, a layer of foam that helps soak up sound waves and vibrations from the road. Like most UHP tires, the ContiSportContact 6 is not designed for colder weather; its softer, stickier tread formulation will stiffen up and lose traction on cold days and it shouldn’t be used if temperatures are below 40-45 degrees F.

3. Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 EV - Best Winter tire

Next up is a winter tire, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 EV– and probably one of the best winter tires for crossovers (and EVs in particular) that’s available anywhere. Nokian Tyre is a Finnish-based company with decades of experience developing tires for the extremes of Scandinavian winter weather, and the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 EV is designed for uncompromising winter performance SimpleScore rates the Hakkapeliitta 10 EV at a solid 9.9 for traction, and it’s not surprising – this tire is designed with a directional winter tread, sweeping grooves, and a dense pattern of sipes, and is already fitted with studs for extreme winter conditions (always check your state laws for the legality of studded tires). The Hakkapeliitta 10 EV’s stud pattern is set at two different angles for glue-like braking, acceleration, and maneuvering traction, yet it’s designed to reduce damage and impact to pavement surfaces and is tuned to reduce pattern noise (along with a foam layer for further sound insulation). The Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV is also very durable, with Aramid-reinforced sidewalls, and a tread formulation that’s tough but flexible in subfreezing weather, earning a SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity. Handling gets a ranking of 8.9, thanks to its shoulder design and directional tread. Last but not least, the Hakkapeliitta 10 EV is a low rolling resistance tire, yet it’s strong enough to handle the extra weight of an EV’s battery pack. Unsurprisingly, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 EV is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated for severe winter service.

4. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT - Great UHP tire

Next up is the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT, another tire that’s featured as OEM on several models from Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT offers sticky grip and long wear from a rubber compound that’s enriched with silica and high levels of carbon black, along with wide, deep circumferential and sweeping lateral grooves that avoid hydroplaning by routing water away from and behind the tire’s contact patch. That, along with Dunlop’s Multi-Radius Tread Technology, is enough for us to give this tire a SimpleScore of 9.3 for traction. Cornering and response are excellent too, thanks to a continuous center rib that boosts steering response, a flat footprint that ensures there’s more rubber in contact with the road, and Dunlop’s Aramid fibers and Hybrid Jointless Band construction to help minimize tread squirm and deformation during hard cornering. That all calculates to a SimpleScore of 9.3 for handling. Longevity is a little less of a strength with this tire since it’s a summer ultra-high-performance tire and uses a softer, stickier tread formulation that will stiffen up and lose grip if temperatures are below 45 degrees F. SimpleTire gives a SimpleScore of 8.0 for longevity for the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT.
