Continental’s next-generation tread compound with Silane+ and Tg-OF is designed to deliver long, even wear and low rolling resistance, helping you see savings on your fuel bills over the life of the tire. Four circumferential grooves boost wet-weather traction as they divert water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning on wet pavement, with a symmetric all-season tread pattern that’s loaded with lateral grooves, a dense pattern of sipes, and Traction Grooves that boost winter traction by picking up and retaining snow for enhanced snow-to-snow friction. The internal construction of the Open Country A/T III includes a polyester casing reinforced by two steel belts, a spiral-wrap polyamide cap layer, and a durable cut-and-chip-resistant tread compound. Toyo covers the Open Country A/T III with a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, which is enough to register the Open Country A/T III with a SimpleScore of 9.6 for longevity. The high void ratio of the tire’s symmetric all-terrain tread means it easily sheds stones, mud, and debris as the wheel turns, so there’s always a clear section of the tire to dig in. The Open Country A/T III also is designed with an extra-deep tread depth for long wear as well as traction. As you’d probably expect, the Toyo Open Country A/T III has the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification for severe winter service for a 9.7 traction score. Cornering, braking, and steering response are also predictable and direct (without being twitchy or over-sensitive), thanks to the shoulder design, sipe pattern, and stable internal construction of the Open Country A/T III for a SimpleScore of 9.3. All in all, the Toyo Open Country A/T III is a robust, capable choice (with an overall SimpleScore of 9.3), with performance that’s equally in its element on or off paved surfaces.

3. Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 - Best Winter tire

Next up is our choice for a winter tire, and the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 is a perfect option for winter performance for anything with the 255/6019 tire size. It’s an extremely durable tire with a damage-resistant rubber compound and internal design; Firestone covers the Destination LE3 with a 70,000 mile warranty, which is enough for a SimpleScore of 9.5 in longevity. A comprehensive system of 3D full-depth sipes, open shoulder slots, circumferential grooves, and Firestone’s TractionTech package all team up to deliver confident grip year-round, for a SimpleScore of 8.6 for traction. Drivers and reviewers have noted that the Destination LE3’s stability, road manners, and drivability are all confident and capable, with a SimpleScore of 8.3 for handling.
