1. Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS - Best UHP All-Season tire

UHP All-Season tires combine the benefits of performance summer tires, extend tread life, and provide winter capabilities. These tires are made to provide the durability and comfort of touring tires, the traction and handling of UHP tires, and the year-round performance of all-season tires. Check out the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS tires if you are looking for the best 255/40R17 UHP all-season tires which boast an excellent SimpleScore of 9.4. This tire's main strengths are handling and grip, both of which achieved 9.8 ratings here, thanks to its SPORTPLUS+ technology, which allows more accurate handling and higher traction on slick roads. While longevity falls behind traction and handling, the tire's tread pattern earned it an 8.8 rating. Backed by Continental’s Total Confidence plan, the ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS also comes with a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for non-staggered fitments, or 25,000 mile limited warranty for rear staggered fitments. Tuned Performance Indicators allow drivers to verify that their tire is still performing optimally, and an Alignment Verification System visually alerts drivers when they require an alignment to avoid uneven wear.

2. Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 RS - Best Summer tire

Summer tires provide excellent traction on both wet and dry roads thanks to their specific tread patterns and compounds. These tires also offer excellent curve stability and mileage performance in hotter weather. If you're looking for the best 255/40R17 summer tires for your journey, consider the Bridgestone Potenza RE71RS, which has an overall SimpleScore of 8.9. This tire's major characteristics are traction and handling, which received scores of 9.7 and 9.9, respectively. For the best traction on dry roads, the Potenza RE71RS features an asymmetric tread design and a high-grip polymer. In terms of handling, the rubber is kept stiff by its smooth shoulder block, which improves cornering ability even at faster speeds. Furthermore, it has a nylon reinforcement ply that improves high-speed performance and strong circumferential ribs that prevent hydroplaning and allow for precise steering. Longevity may be a source of concern, as it scored only 7.3 there. However, the tire's double steel belted structure makes it lightweight while enhancing durability.

3. Kumho Ecsta PA51 - Best All-Season tire

If you have all-season tires, you won't have to waste time replacing them when the weather becomes cold. Except for exceptionally cold winters, these tires' intermediate rubber formula offers the best performance and traction for the vehicle in all conditions. Consider the Kumho Ecsta PA51, which boasts an overall SimpleScore of 8.8. Handling is the major strength of this tire as it scored 9.1 thanks to its state-of-the-art design. Kumho Ecsta PA51 tires can be used in light snow due to their all-season rubber compound, a strong center rib that interacts with winter sipes and edge blocks to improve traction and stability, and an excellent traction score of 8.9. Backed by a 45,000 mile manufacturer tread life warranty, the Ecsta PA51 puts more rubber on the road and has a longevity score of 8.6. If you want a quiet, pleasant ride with sporty handling capabilities, go no further than the Kumho Ecsta PA51 tires.

4. Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 (K120) - Best UHP tire

There's a reason why UHP tires are more popular on high-end sports cars: they're just better able to manage the vehicle's greater speeds, torque, and g-forces. Take a look at the Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 (K120) if you want the best 255/40R17 UHP tire which has an overall SimpleScore of 8.5. These tires' main strengths are handling and traction, which received an identical score of 8.8. It has a layer of broad steel belts that improve handling in both dry and wet circumstances. The firm bead filler layer of the Ventus V12 evo2 (K120) improves handling and steering response all year long. On the traction front, its high-grip silica compound enhances traction in both rainy and dry conditions. To lower the chance of hydroplaning, a tire's aqua jet channel rapidly removes water from the main groove to improve wet traction. Its high-grip silica compound accounts for its great longevity score of 8. Additionally, drivers can notice when their car is out of alignment thanks to its built-in alignment indicators. To provide drivers and passengers with a peaceful, comfortable ride, the wing tip design is distinctive and the 5-pitch variation is tailored to reduce road noise.

5. Yokohama Avid ENVigor ZPS - Best Performance tire

Performance tires are specifically made for sports cars. They serve a specific purpose, as their name suggests they are designed for performance. When braking, quickly accelerating, and making tight turns, they hug the road. For exciting and enjoyable drives, they are ideal. The Yokohama Avid ENVigor ZPS is a great 255/40R17 performance tire that has a great SimpleScore of 8.3 thanks to its great handling (8.6), traction (8.4), and good longevity (7.6) scores. The tire has a directional tread design and adaptable sipes that channel water away, providing great wet grip. Its structure and aggressive directional design allow for precise and quick handling.
