1. Falken Wildpeak H/T02 - Best All-Season tire

We’re going to kick this list off with the Falken Wildpeak H/T 02. The Wildpeak H/T 02 may technically be classed as an all-season highway-terrain tire, don’t be fooled – this is a tough and durable commercial-grade tire for light trucks and SUVs, complete with Heavy Duty LT certification. The Wildpeak H/T 02 offers real durability for heavy loads and long miles, with a rugged upper sidewall, damage-resistant tread compound, and “support bridge” tread blocks that are tied together for extra rigidity and stability. Depending on tire size and speed rating, Falken covers the Wildpeak H/T with up to a 70,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty. After you add it all up, that’s a SimpleScore of 9.7 for longevity. For year-round performance, there’s a silica-rich tread formulation and a tread pattern of circumferential and lateral grooves with 3D Canyon Sipes, for a SimpleScore of 8.7 for traction. Road manners, steering response, cornering, and braking performance are all immediate and composed, and we give the Wildpeak H/T 02 a SimpleScore of 8.5 for handling.

2. Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S - Best All-Terrain tire

Lots of light trucks with the 245/70R16 tire size are equipped with 4WD and need an all-terrain tire to get the most out of their performance potential. You can think of the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S as a strong, hardworking set of hands in a pair of elegant, soft leather driving gloves: this is the tire that has the versatility to do it all. We should talk about the exceptional durability of the Discoverer AT3 4S; Cooper stands by this tire with a 65,000 mile warranty, which is some of the best coverage you’ll find for any AT tire in this class. When it comes to longevity, the Discoverer AT3 4S takes home a SimpleScore of 9.2. The Discoverer AT3 4S gets an admirable SimpleScore of 9.7 for traction, with its Aqua-Vac channels with deep center grooves for wet-weather traction, a 5-rib Secure-Grip all-terrain tread pattern, Micro-Gauge zigzag sipes and Cooper’s Snow Groove technology that traps and holds onto snow to build snow-on-snow friction. If you find yourself having to deal with tough winter conditions, the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S is certified with the tire industry’s Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for severe winter service. SimpleScore for handling is 9.4, with cornering, road manners, and steering response that are all crisp and immediate, thanks to this tire’s durable internal construction that consists of a 2-ply polyester casing with two steel belts and a single-ply nylon reinforcement ply, all of which figure into the Discoverer AT3 4S’s highway-speed stability and road manners.

3. Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 - Best Winter tire

Next up is our choice for a winter tire, and the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 is a perfect option for winter performance for vehicles with the 245/70R16 tire size. The Blizzak DM-V2 is designed with the technology and features to confidently get you through some of the most difficult winter conditions without subjecting you and your passengers to a rough nerve-wracking ride. This purpose-built winter tire is packed with advanced features like a next-generation winter tread formulation that incorporates Bridgestone’s multi-cell rubber compounds and a hydrophilic coating, ensuring that the tire stays flexible for traction at subfreezing temperatures. The increased block edges in the tread pattern of the Blizzak maximizes rubber contact with the road, and its tread compound contains “bite particles” that let the Blizzak DM-V2 get the best purchase on snowy, slushy, or icy surfaces, earning a SimpleScore of 9.7 for traction. That enhanced contact patch also helps to improve steering feedback and response as well as traction and control, bringing home a SimpleScore of 8.9 for handling. Durability is another strong suit with this tire; while most tires are naturally going to lose traction as they wear down, Bridgestone designed the Blizzak DM-V2 with NanoPro Tech Multicell Compound for the first 55% of the tire’s tread depth. From that point on, the remaining 45% of tread depth is a standard winter compound that’s designed for excellent grip on snow and slush (SimpleScore of 9.3 for longevity). As you’d probably expect, the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated for severe winter service.

4. Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 - Great All-Terrain tire

Next up is a tire that’s made a great impression on drivers for years, the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015. Yokohama’s Geolandar family of tires has built a great reputation for all-terrain tire performance for decades, and the Geolandar AT G015 is a natural next step for Yokohama. The Geolandar AT G015 is designed around Yokohama’s Enduro tread formulation and a flat, optimized footprint that encourages long, even wear (with a 60,000 mile warranty), the kind of wear properties that are good enough for a strong SimpleScore of 8.8 for longevity. Grip on or off the pavement is superb and consistent as well, with a combination of circumferential grooves, full-depth 3D sipes, and Yokohama’s Edgetec groove design. The Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 is stamped with the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for severe winter service, and we give it a very strong 8.6 SimpleScore in the traction department. Our SimpleScore numerical rating for handling:: 8.4.

Road manners, steering feedback, cornering, and steering response with the Geolandar AT G015 are all excellent thanks to those tread features along with durable, stable Endurocore construction.

5. Kumho Crugen HP71 - Great All-Season tire

Let’s close out and wrap up our list with a next-generation all-season tire, the Kumho Crugen HP71. The Crugen HP71 comes with a very respectable SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity; Kumho designed it with an advanced tread compound and covered it with a 65,000 mile warranty. Steering feedback, response, road manners, and cornering are all more along the lines of what you’d expect from a performance tire, with a rigid center rib and shoulder blocks that are designed to resist the forces of braking and cornering for a handling score of 8.6. With its circumferential grooves, lateral voids, micro-serrations, and full-depth sipes that help deliver dependable grip in wet, dry, or wintry conditions as well as on a variety of pavement surfaces, we give the Crugen HP71 a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction. The Kumho Crugen HP71 is also engineered for a ride that’s quiet and refined, thanks to a tread pitch that’s randomized and computer-tuned to cancel certain frequencies, keeping road noise low.
